Royal Delft
Blauwe Roos Antiek offers an excellent collection of vintage Royal Delft plates and vases. Mostly produced in the period 1920 – 1980, they are a testimony of the impressive abilities of the craftsmen and painters of this world famous Delftware producer, the only one that has been in operation – without interruption – from the 17th century until today.
The origins of Porceleyne Fles/Royal Delft can be traced back to 1653, when David Anthonisz van der Pieth, a Dutch entrepreneur, established his pottery workshop in Delft. In 1658 he registered the pottery under the name "De Porceleyne Fles" (The Porcelain Jar), marking the official founding of the company.
Over the years, the pottery's reputation continued to grow, and in 1876, it received the prestigious designation of "Koninklijke" (Royal) from King William III of the Netherlands, becoming known as "Royal Delft."
The way Porceleyne Fles/Royal Delft operates has evolved over the centuries, adapting to changes in technology, market demand, and artistic trends. However, certain principles have remained constant, reflecting the pottery's commitment to quality, tradition, and craftsmanship.

"Royal Delft is the guardian of a centuries-old legacy, ensuring that the timeless beauty of Delftware continues to inspire and enchant the world."

Blauwe Roos Antiek

At the heart of Royal Delft's way of working is a dedication to handcraftsmanship. Skilled artisans meticulously hand-paint each piece, which allows for a level of artistry and individuality that cannot be replicated by mass production methods. In addition, Royal Delft employs traditional glazing, firing, and finishing techniques to achieve the desired results.
Obviously, this labour-intensive way of working means that items acquired at the Royal Delft factory are not cheap, especially not when compared to the much more modest prices of the ‘vintage’ pieces offered by Blauwe Roos Antiek.
Yet, a visit and guided tour to the Royal Delft factory is highly recommended. The Royal Delft factory tour allows for the exploration of centuries of Delftware craftsmanship, from its humble beginnings to its modern iterations.
